Potes Notes October 2018

Greeting Nobles!

Fall has arrived and we have much to do as we head into the 4th quarter.  Zenobia is participating in the 69th session of the Great Lakes Shrine Association Fall Convention in Grand Rapids, Michigan as of this writing.  Here’s to hoping all nobles and ladies attending had a great time seeing counterparts from our region.

We have a few Friendship Nights on the agenda to bring additional Masons into our fold. The first is October 26th at Zenobia.  The second is being planned for our Masonic Lodges in the east, and the third is for the western region on November 2nd. This is a great opportunity for all nobles to tell our story and bring fellow Masons on board.

A Fall Ceremonial is slated for November 3rd at Zenobia. It will have the same format as the Spring Ceremonial:

  • Social at 9:00am
  • 1st Session at 10:00am
  • 2nd Session at 11:30am
  • Lunch at 12:30pm
  • Unit and Club Reviews to follow

Our candidate’s ladies will be entertained off-site by the Divan Ladies and rejoin for Lunch and the Unit and Club Reviews. If you are a Top Line Signer, your Lady should join the Divan Ladies that day.

This is scheduled on a day when no parades are scheduled. The success of this event is dependent upon each noble from Units and Clubs attending and making that extra effort to make our newest members feel welcome.

If you are a noble who is not a member of a Unit or Club, this is also a great chance to see Zenobia’s Units and Clubs shine. We have added several new Units over the past 5 years.  One may be of interest to you.

There is NO COST to attend the Fall Ceremonial for Nobles and their Ladies.

Please attend your Blue Lodges and help get the word out on this.

Lastly, during the Stated Meeting in September, Zenobia presented commission checks to Units, Clubs, and many Blue Lodges for selling Vidalia Onions in May and June. These funds can be used for any purpose. Likewise, we presented commission checks at the Shrine Circus Kick-Off Meeting for Circus Ad Sales. Again, these monies can be spent any way you like.

Zenobia Shrine offers all Masonic Bodies many opportunities to raise funds. The systems are already in place. You just need to participate, and we provide the training.

Our first Shriners Hospitals for Children Golf Outing was held August 5th at Heatherdowns Country Club.  The festivity started on August 4th at Zenobia with a Cook Your Own Steak Dinner and musical entertainment.  We are glad to say it was profitable and a fun time was had by all. Planning has begun for next year’s event to make it bigger and better.

Zenobia is busy preparing for the Great Lakes Shrine Association convention in Grand Rapids, Michigan September 19 – 23.  The business meeting will be held on the 20th at the Crown Plaza Hotel.  Rooms are still available. A parade will be held Saturday morning the 22nd.  We ask that unit planning on parading please contact the office as we need to submit our unit information to GLSA ASAP. Zenobia will have a Hospitality Room at the Crown Plaza.  Please stop by.

Sandusky Science Lodge and the City of Sandusky celebrated their 200th anniversary August 18th.  Our Grand Master, Most Worshipful Eric R Schau, led area Masons in the parade. Zenobia had many parade units participate. If you ever had the opportunity to look at the street layout for downtown Sandusky, it was designed as a square and compass. The City Planner was a Mason.

Our Temple is participated in the Northwest Ohio National Tractor Pull in Bowling Green. We had a booth for the Sportsmen Extravaganza ticket sales and provided courtesy shuttle service for attendees from the parking lots to the main gate on a donation basis.  Here is to hoping our involvement in this event will be profitable for Zenobia.  Visibility at such large events can be nothing but positive.  The National Tractor Pull Association was thrilled we stepped up.

Calendar items we need to focus on:

  • 9/13 State Meeting
  • 9/14 Friendship Night at the 5th District
  • 9/19-9/23 GLSA in Grand Rapids, Michigan
  • 10/6 Sportsmen Extravaganza, Seagate Center, Toledo
  • 10/13 Divan Ladies Style Show, Perrysburg Hilton Garden Inn
  • 10/26 Friendship Night at Zenobia
  • 11/3 Fall Ceremonial at Zenobia

Please attend your Masonic lodge meetings.  That’s where our future Shriners are.

In closing, be safe in your travels and we are looking forward to seeing you at our Stated Meeting in September!

Fraternally,
Thomas Binder
