Potentate’s Note March 2020

Greetings Nobles,

It’s that time again for another addition of the Pote’s Notes. We have had an action-packed start to the year, and it seems like there is something constantly going on and always something to do.

Since our last addition, we have had several successful events, starting with Dendarah’s Ceremonial. Zenobia was well represented with seven Divan members, several past Potentates, as well as a few Nobles to support their lady. Second, was the Valentine’s Dance with a nice turn out of around 60 people, which had a lot of laughs and good humor with the traditional “Not so New, Newly Wed” game. The very next weekend was the annual Shrine Walleye game, where one of our patients from Cincinnati got to drop the puck. (Ironically, the Walleye played against Cincinnati that night. Fish win in a shootout!) Finally, the weekend of Valentine’s Day, myself and my Lady, Ty Stout, and Scott and Tiffany Harder attended the youth dance at Zenobia Shrine. It was a nice night with around 25 Rainbow Girls and 10 DeMolay Boys from around northwest Ohio, as well as several adult chaperones. They had food, dancing and elected a new King (Samuel Fabre) and Queen (Mackenzie Parasiliti).

By the time you get this addition, ALL Nobles in Zenobia’s roster should have (hopefully) received in person or in the mail, a calendar book and pin for the year. If you did not get one, please call the office at 419-661-9200, so we can be sure to get one to you. I would like to thank Noble Chris Malhoit for taking a whole day with me at the post office to get the mailing out. Please be aware, this calendar book is to let you know what events are planned for the year and not a membership book. The only names listed at the back of the book are those of the officers of the clubs or units.

Looking ahead, we have one of our biggest events of the year coming up, the CIRCUS. The dates are March 19-22. We are still looking for Circus Daddy’s (Nobles to sponsor kids or families to attend a show), ushers, tickets sellers, cotton candy makers, snow cone makers, greeters, etc. If you have some time to give, we will find a place for you to help and as always, encourage everyone you know to buy tickets. This is a great way to introduce people to the Shrine.

Important dates coming up in the next few months include: Friendship night, Friday, April 3, at Zenobia. Doors open at 6 p.m., with dinner starting at 7 p.m. Dinner is $10/person, but if you bring a non-Mason/Shriner, you and your guest will be OUR guest for the evening. Spring Ceremonial is Saturday, April 18, at Zenobia. Doors open at 9:30 a.m., with Ceremonial starting promptly at 10:30 a.m. There will be a program for the ladies. Please call Lady Georgia Durain (419-957-1232) to let her know if you will be attending. All ladies are welcome, just please RSVP. Pote’s Party will be Saturday, May 2, at Park Inn in Toledo. The theme for the night is Caribbean Cruise, so come dressed in your favorite Caribbean attire. The cost is $60/person with a cash bar, plated meal, and DANCING! We are still negotiating room rates to stay at the hotel and will get the rate to you as soon as possible. Pote’s trip is to Erie, Pennsylvania, on June 5-7. We will be taking a long weekend to explore Erie, as well as attend the hospital open house. There are several activities that are available while we are there. More information will come in the next issue about cost and times. This is a great opportunity to tour one of our hospitals and see firsthand ‘Why We Do What We Do!’

As you can see, there are many things for you to get involved in and I look forward to seeing you soon!
