Potentate’s Notes September 2020

It seems like it has been forever and at the same time it seems like yesterday that we were having fun and getting the year started off on the right foot.

The summer has not been without events, just not all the events we had planned. We started off with a “Spring” Ceremonial with a carry-in picnic that followed. We welcomed nine new Nobles and their families. With Imperial Session getting cancelled, and the Divan already having the weekend available in their calendar, the Ridgeway’s decided to have an impromptu picnic at their house in Dunkirk on July 4. We had our first meeting back since the COVID-19 shutdown on July 16, for the purpose of discussing new petitions, where we had about 30 Nobles in attendance and were able to do so following the social distancing guidelines. It was nice getting a chance to enjoy the fellowship of our Shrine family again.

August 1 was Zenobia’s third annual golf outing to benefit Shriners Hospitals for Children. Special thanks to John and Robin Hoffman for chairing the event again this year, as well as those on their committee. We had a GREAT turnout the day of the event with 17 (and a half) teams, as well as 40 hole sponsors. Special thank you to Eric Erikson for the donation of MANY door prizes, as well as those received from local businesses.

Fremont Shrine Club had their annual Divan visitation at Ole Zims on August 5 and the Patrol had their annual steak fry on August 8.

GLSA has been cancelled as well for this year, but we look forward to a bigger and better session next year. The Potentate’s party has been rescheduled for Saturday, September 19, at Zenobia. Please see the Ridgeways or Harders for your tickets (you can call the Shrine office as well).

The Sportsmen’s Extravaganza is still going to take place; however, it will not be taking place at the SeaGate Center. We will be drawing for all the same prizes as if we were at SeaGate, but we will be doing it virtually. The Divan and a small committee will be here that day to make sure the drawings happen and get recorded. Details are being worked on, as we speak, for a live broadcast through Facebook or You Tube. We will keep you posted. We need to keep selling tickets for this event as we still need to cover the cost for the raffles that we are giving away.

Nobles, please keep up on looking for good men to become Shriners. Without the ability to have membership drives and friendship nights, we need to keep our membership growing. The plan is to still have a “Fall” Ceremonial in November. Let us have a BIG class of new Nobles.

I am looking forward to seeing you all again, very soon!
