Potentate’s Notes Summer 2021

As we start the summer month of June, we are coming off an exciting May. We started the month with a community outreach to our first responders providing fire, police and EMS services. I was fortunate enough to sit with the fire chief from Waterville and his wife. It was a wonderful evening, organized by Noble Ty Stout and fed by our very own Pit Masters. Several first responder couples were in attendance that night and it was a great family outreach to our community.

The unit focus for the month of May was the Roadrunners, our premier unit for Shriners Children Service. These Nobles give of their time to transport our patients and their families to various Shriner Children Hospitals within our area. If you have interest or might know someone who does, in donating your time and talents, please contact this unit. Potential Roadrunners do not have to be Shriners (though we always feel they will be), so if there is a Mason in your life that might be a great fit, please let us know.
The unit we are focusing on this month is our very own Clowns, who meet on the third Wednesday (June 16) at their Findlay building. If you have a chance to enjoy the Clowns hospitality, I encourage you to attend their meeting. They also are sponsoring their golf outing on Saturday, June 19, at Hillcrest Golf Course, for an affordable $50 per golfer. Please contact them with your chosen four-some for a great time. Participating in our various units is a great way for everyone to enjoy fellowship, so please reach out to some of our newest Nobles with an invite.

Speaking of new Nobles, on May 15 we hosted our Spring Ceremonial with some changes from the past. The time of the event was at 2 p.m., to accommodate a one-day class going on that morning. The one-day class was a huge success with lodges welcoming nine new Masons that morning. Many aspects of the degrees were put on by our very own Past Master Unit members, including the Fellowcraft and Master Mason lectures, as well as master, senior warden, junior warden and deacon parts. The impact that our Past Masters Unit made was so impressive that a few members of the class and lodge officers petitioned our Shrine and joined that day. We were able to welcome 20 new Nobles to our Shrine with an amazing ceremonial. The Dramatic Cast showed they were all-stars with outstanding ritual, that left members and candidates impressed alike. Noble Steve Hessler followed up that performance with his very own “Bourbon Trail” theme of Nobles getting their passports signed by various units and clubs inspiring the new Nobles to get to know each other and their fellow members through the process. Finally, Illustrious Binder and Slavin put on second section of fun and revelry that left new Nobles hoping that they might be the victim of the antics in the future. If you missed this opportunity to see what kind of fun your Shrine can put on, please make sure you are around for our Fall Ceremonial in November.

I regret to tell you we had to reschedule the joint Mud Hens day with the Scottish Rite Valley of Toledo until June 26, however that means that you still have time to reserve your spot. Please contact the office to pay for your ticket and come to enjoy the fun. This month we also have our tabloid sales, so please reach out to Noble Doug McGee for some papers or plaques to raise funds for our beloved transportation fund and hospitals.

Finally, a big thank you to Noble Kevin Ridgeway, Dave Black, Ty Stout and everyone else who helped with the onion sales. We missed this important fund-raiser last year, but the presales our Nobles put in have made this a success. Without their efforts we would be challenged in continuing the outreach and community funding of our onion sales.

While some of you might be thinking that this summer will be the same boring time off you experience every year, we have some news for you. In July we have a drive-in movie night at the Shrine on Saturday, July 17. On Saturday, August 7, we have the John Hoffman Memorial Golf Outing and Friday and Saturday, August 13 to 14, we have the National Tractor Pull Sportsmen’s raffle table and golf cart taxi event. We hope some of these pique your interest and we look forward to seeing you there.
